When research goes dark, timing is the signal.
Buyers now research in a chat window no tracking pixel can follow. Signals built on content clicks fade. Events that happen in public, and agents reading your pages, get louder.

The new signal is already in your server logs.
When someone asks ChatGPT, Claude or Perplexity a question, the assistant may open your pages on the spot. It says so in the user agent, and the major providers document which agents act on a user's request.

A user-triggered fetch shows that a question was asked and which page answered it. It does not tell you who asked.
| User agent | What it means | Source |
|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT-User | A user asked ChatGPT something and it opened your page to answer. | OpenAI |
| Claude-User | Someone asked Claude a question and it accessed your site to answer it. | Anthropic |
| Perplexity-User | A user asked Perplexity and it visited your page to answer. | Perplexity |
| OAI-SearchBot, Claude-SearchBot, PerplexityBot | Search indexing. It decides whether you can be found, but it is not a buyer. | OpenAI, Anthropic, Perplexity |
| GPTBot, ClaudeBot | Crawling for model training. Not a buying signal. | OpenAI, Anthropic |
Signals worth watching.
Each of these happens in public or on your own servers, so no tracking pixel is needed to see it.
| Signal | Where it shows | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|
| New sales or revenue leader | LinkedIn, press releases | A new owner reviews tools and budget in the first months. |
| Hiring for the work you automate | Job boards, careers pages | The problem is real and someone is paying to solve it. |
| Funding round | Press, company registries | Budget for new tools, and pressure to grow fast. |
| AI assistants opening your pricing page | Your server logs | Someone is comparing vendors right now. |
| Named next to you in AI answers | Asking assistants your buyers' questions | Who you are being compared with, and how. |
